Hi, I am Susan Prescott, the Art teacher for Concho Elementary School, grades Kindergarten through 8th grade.  Kindergarten through 6th grade has Art once a week and 7th and 8th grade have Art as an elective each quarter.

My philosophy for teaching Art is that I believe that each individual is unique and that each individual has the ability to be talented and creative.  Art is a fun subject and it allows the individual the freedom to be expressive visually and kinesthetically.  Art also teaches the individual to appreciate the world around him/her.  Art also prepares the individual for the future.

For lessons and projects in Art, we will be drawing designs, painting, cut and paste, weaving, holiday crafts, and maybe work with clay.  Each lesson will focus on the Standards for Visual Art.

Kindergarten will learn to identify shapes and colors; do simple cut and paste; coloring; painting; seasons and holidays.  1st grade through 6th grade will learn the elements and principles of design, certain artists and cultures, and careers in Art.  7th and 8th grade will learn the priciples and elements of design and beginning and advanced drawing and painting techniques.

The Art classes meet once a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Kindergarten through 6th grade meet on Tuesdays and 1st grade, 4th grade and 7th and 8th grade meet on Thursdays.

For Special Events, each year our Art classes participate in fairs and local and state poster contests.  In August is our Open House; September is the Apache Count Christmas program; and in April is our Spring Fair.

You are welcome to come an visit our classroom, volunteer, and donate any items that we can use for crafts at any time.  If you have any concerns you may reach me at Concho Elementary School, P.O. Box 200, Concho, Az or or (928) 337-4665.
